Advent of Coffee
Ever since I started to work from home, I’ve subscribed to Pact Coffee. I’ve been very happy with the coffee that I’ve been sent. For me, variety is more important than finding one good coffee and sticking to it. Consequently, I’ve never taken the time to figure out whether there are some coffees that I enjoy more than others.
Each year, Pact does a coffee advent calendar. This year decided to try and describe my daily coffee in words that moved beyond “nice” or “good”. Could I reliably detect the difference between a light and a dark roast, or distinguish my chocolates from my fruits? I documented each tasting and present my tasting notes as part of this Advent of Coffee series.
🗒️ Tasting Notes
- Different smells and testes interact with different regiouns of your nose and mouth.
- Placing a smell or taste is hard, but once you label it, it’s even harder to forget the label.
- A small cold can wreck your sense of smell and taste.
- Trying to identify a smell when opening the bag of coffee proved challenging. I wonder if I’m picking up on another dominant aroma instead.
- There were times when I really struggled to detect the hints described on the tasting card. Other times I was quite close. Being way off didn’t make the coffee any less enjoyable.
